What the authority is responsible for
The standard provides consistent labelling. The Office does not calculate personal insulin doses and is not a substitute for individual medical advice.

The Office checks that published carbohydrate values are converted transparently and that estimates are clearly identified.
Approved calculations
The register describes rounding, portion references and the treatment of unavailable carbohydrate fractions.
Not a dosing service
BfBE information is for labelling and orientation. The Office neither records nor assesses personal factors, medication or treatment decisions.
Legal basis
Carbohydrate Declaration Act 1988
The Act requires values in grams and bread units. Estimates remain permissible but must be identified as approximate and calculated using an approved method.
