Food & Dining
Dishes from the four sectors and the capital, with ingredients, preparation and nutrition information. Values are estimates per serving — they depend on the brand, ingredients and serving size and should be recalculated if in doubt.
The injection-to-meal interval
Restaurants in Diabetien serve no earlier than 15 and no later than 20 minutes after an order is placed. Sector 2 has an extended interval of 30 minutes — a rule the south still cannot understand.
Labelling requirement
Every menu states the carbohydrate content after the price. A dish without a declaration may not be served, even free of charge.
The Federal Skillet
Cauliflower rice, fish, mangetout, and dill. Cooked in both halves on November 14, in one skillet for everyone. North and south disagree over the proper amount of dill.

Region Betazell am ZuckerhutFederal Skillet
The federal dish: cauliflower rice, fish from the Pancreatic Sea, mangetout, and plenty of dill.
Ingredients
- 600 gcauliflower, coarsely grated
- 500 gsalmon or cod fillet, diced
- 150 gmangetout
- 1onion, finely diced
- 2garlic cloves
- 100 mlcream
- 2 tbspolive oil
- 1 bunchdill
- 1lemon, zest and juice
- salt, pepper
Method
- Process the cauliflower into rice-sized pieces in a food processor. Do not purée it — the texture is the essence of the dish.
- Heat the oil in a wide skillet and gently cook the onion and garlic until translucent.
- Add the cauliflower rice and cook for four minutes, turning it until it begins to colour.
- Stir in the mangetout and cream and simmer uncovered for two minutes.
- Distribute the diced fish over the surface, cover, reduce the heat, and leave to cook gently for five minutes.
- Season with lemon zest and juice, dill, salt, and pepper. Serve from the skillet for everyone to share.
Official note
Traditionally prepared in every household in both halves on the federal holiday, November 14. The skillet, not the plate, is brought to the table.
Basal Bread
The Federation's staple bread of linseed, almonds and psyllium husks. In Retardos it is served in thin slices.
Ingredients
- 150 gflaxseed, freshly ground
- 150 gground almonds
- 100 gsunflower seeds
- 50 gpsyllium husks
- 4eggs
- 350 mllukewarm water
- 1 packetbaking powder
- 1 tspsalt
- 1 tbspapple cider vinegar
Method
- Combine all the dry ingredients in a bowl.
- Add the eggs, water, and vinegar and mix vigorously until a thick, even dough forms.
- Leave to absorb for fifteen minutes. The dough will noticeably firm up — this is intentional.
- Transfer to a greased 30 cm loaf tin and smooth the surface.
- Bake at 180°C using conventional heat for 60 to 65 minutes. Tap the loaf: it should sound hollow.
- Leave to cool completely before slicing. It will crumble if cut while warm.
Official note
Values are per slice of about 45 g. Sector 2 follows a household rule: one loaf per household per week, no more.
Ketogenic Cheesecake
No crust, no sugar, no fuss. The cake considered a success in both halves.
Ingredients
- 500 gfull-fat cream cheese
- 500 glow-fat quark
- 4eggs
- 120 gerythritol, finely powdered
- 30 gground almonds
- 1 tspvanilla extract
- 1lemon, zest only
- 1 pinchsalt
Method
- Beat the cream cheese and quark at room temperature until smooth. A cold mixture will crack during baking.
- Stir in the erythritol, almonds, vanilla, lemon zest, and salt.
- Mix in the eggs one at a time, only until each disappears. Do not beat — air in the batter causes cracks.
- Pour into a 26 cm springform tin lined with baking paper.
- Bake at 160°C for 55 to 60 minutes. The centre may still wobble slightly.
- Switch off the oven, open the door slightly, and leave the cake to cool inside. Then chill for at least four hours.
Official note
The customary notice period is twenty minutes before serving. In Sector 2, it is thirty.
Pumpina Zucchini Lasagne
The south's holiday lasagne. Thinly sliced zucchini replace pasta sheets.
Ingredients
- 3large zucchini
- 500 gmixed minced meat
- 400 gchopped tomatoes
- 1onion
- 2garlic cloves
- 250 gricotta
- 150 ggrated mountain cheese
- 2 tbspolive oil
- 1 tspdried oregano
- salt, pepper, nutmeg
Method
- Slice the zucchini lengthways into 3 mm strips, salt them, and drain on a cloth for twenty minutes. This step determines the success of the lasagne.
- Gently cook the onion and garlic in oil, then brown the minced meat until crumbly.
- Add the tomatoes and oregano and simmer uncovered for 15 minutes, until the sauce thickens.
- Mix the ricotta with nutmeg, salt, and pepper.
- Layer the zucchini strips, meat sauce, and ricotta in turn, finishing with zucchini.
- Sprinkle with cheese and bake at 190°C for 35 minutes. Rest for ten minutes before cutting.
Official note
Draining the zucchini is why Sector 1 cuisine is considered elaborate.

- 300 gbutton mushrooms, sliced

- salt, pepper
Method
- Rinse the konjac noodles thoroughly in a sieve under running water for two minutes. This is not optional.
- Dry-fry the noodles without fat in a hot pan for three to four minutes, until they squeak and the remaining moisture has evaporated. Set aside.
- Melt the butter in the same pan and fry the shallot and mushrooms over high heat until browned.
- Add the cream and thyme and reduce briefly.
- Return the noodles to the pan, stir in the Parmesan, season, and serve immediately.
Official note
Rinsing and dry-frying are the two steps without which this dish fails.
Novartemis Cottage Cheese Pancakes
The breakfast of Novartemis care homes, traditionally served with quark and berries.

- Leave for five minutes until the batter thickens.
- Melt the butter in a non-stick frying pan over medium heat.

Retardos Berry Chia
Prepared in the evening and ready in the fridge by morning. The simplest dessert in the country.

- Place small mounds of cheese well apart on the tray: they spread considerably.

- Bake at 180°C for six to eight minutes, until the edges are golden brown.
- Leave to cool completely on the tray. They only become crisp once cool.
Official note
Values are per cracker. Walkers in the valleys of Sector 3 carry them in a tin.

- Fold in the kale, add the stock, cover and braise for 15 minutes.
- Season with mustard, nutmeg, salt and pepper.
Official note

- 3lemons, juiced
- 2 tbsperythritol or 8 drops of sucralose

How Diabetien eats
The day has four fixed anchors: Fasting, Mid-morning, Main meal and Late. Snacks between meals are considered a private matter and are not officially recorded.
Food culture is the two halves' favourite subject of dispute. People in the north eat later, linger longer, and gather in larger groups; in the south, they eat earlier, more briefly, and more often. Each side considers the other's habits unhealthy and advances the same arguments in reverse order.
Cake is permitted and popular, but it is announced in advance. Serving guests an unannounced dessert is considered extremely rude — the notice period is twenty minutes in private homes and thirty in Sector 2.
